Treatment Options

1. Water-Based Misting

Water-based misting is an effective treatment method that leaves a residual effect after the application. The application is odourless and does not leave any stain. Once the chemical dries it binds with the surface and remains effective for up to 2 weeks. Mosquitoes that land on the treated surface picks up the chemical and dies off.

2. Thermal Fogging

Thermal Fogging is a popular conventional treatment. Thermal fogging is old based thus you see visible smoke while it is carried out. Thermal fogging can cover a larger area as the smoke containing the chemical is able to spread with the wind direction. However, there is no residual effect and once the smoke dissipate, the treatment is no longer effective.

3. Larvaciding

This treatment is focused on treating the water bodies in a property that breeds mosquito larvae or is a potential source for mosquito breeding. Either a oil or water based chemical will be used.

4. Indoor Mosquito Protection Zone

This is a specially designed treatment for home and offices where fogging and misting are not feasible to be carried out. A residual chemical is sprayed on all surfaces favourable for mosquitoes to land and rest. It is a very effective treatment that last up to 4 weeks.

5. BTI

Treatment is applied in the form of water-based mist using a backpack misting unit at the external areas of the premise. The mist simulates rain, and thus will be able to reach all possible microhabitats within the area effectively. Due to its water-based nature, it will not leave stains on building exterior areas.

6. IN2CARE Mosquito Traps

The In2Care® Mosquito Trap consists of a water reservoir, lid, and floater made from durable plastic. The trap is activated with a refill sachet that contains a piece of coated gauze, 0.5 grams of In2Mix biocides and 2 yeast tablets. Traps are filled with 4 Liters of water, the biocide-treated gauze strip is fitted on the floater, and the remaining powder and odour tablets from the sachet are added to the water. The lid protects the content from sun and rain. In2Care® Mosquito Traps are placed in in shaded, vegetated areas with high Aedes mosquito infestations. The traps are reactivated every 4 weeks with a new refill sachet; replacing the biocide-treated gauze strip and adding more water. Mode of action The In2Care® Mosquito Trap reservoir contains water, yeast and larvae developing from eggs laid inside the trap, and thereby attracts egg-laying Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus species. These container-breeding species like to lay eggs in such cool and dark environments. When a mosquito enters the trap, she lands near the water on the floater gauze treated with the In2Mix biocides. In2Mix contains the slow-killing larvicide pyriproxyfen and the adulticide Beauveria fungus.  The achieved vector control impacts are:

  1. All larvae that emerge from eggs laid inside the In2Care Mosquito Trap are killed by pyriproxyfen (PPF) at the time of the 4 th larval instar stage or pupal stage. This is because PPF acts as a growth regulator and kills slowly. No larvae in the In2Care Trap water will develop into mosquito adults (measured as 0% “adult emergence rate”). The amount of PPF added to the Trap container is sufficient for subsequent dilutions with more than 20 Litres of clean water.
  2. Egg-laying females are contaminated with pyriproxyfen crystals upon contact with the netting strip. They then spread (“auto-disseminate”) the PPF particles to other breeding sites they visit next.
